How did concept of ‘Love’ evolve? How did love enter stream of consciousness & became an integral part of human experience? A lot of human sciences like psychology & anthropology have attempted to determine that but love is not an invention but a natural instinct that evolved to enable humans to further their offspring. The word ‘love’ is derived from Old English word “lufu.” This is similar to Old High German, “luba,” & Old English word, lēof, meaning ‘dear’. There are many words related to love that have evolved from Romans, Greeks etc but all come from roots relating to dear, pleasing & cherish which definitely hints at a more transcendent meaning of the modern day word.

So what does love mean? Love is what one feels! This simple word is so powerful that it binds the universe. It is an emotion central to all human relationships. A simple phrase like, “I love you” can bring a smile or a tear in eyes of your loved ones.
Beyond words, love finds expression in touch & gifts, well yes! Gifting is a renowned tradition on Valentine’s Day. Pope Gelasius had declared Feb 14 as St. Valentine’s Day in 5th Century. It was believed in France & England, Feb 14 was beginning of birds’ mating season.
BTW, did you pick up a gift for your loved one this Valentine’s Day?🙂
